About Me

I am currently a Science and Technology Policy Fellow with the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, D.C.. I am serving with the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Research and Development where I focus on sustainability and healthy communities. I graduated in 2014 with a PhD in sociology from Florida International University, where I completed my dissertation "Socio-ecological Vulnerability to Climate Change in South Florida." As a research assistant for the NSF Urban Long Term Research Area–Exploratory project (ULTRA-EX) I conducted outreach and community education on climate change vulnerability and adaptation. I have ten years of experience in community research collaborations on a wide range of social, economic, and environmental justice issues. Most recently I worked as Program Coordinator at the University of Miami Office of Civic and Community Engagement where I developed research and programs related to affordable housing with public, non-profit, and academic partners, including the Miami Affordability Project. Previously I worked for as a research associate at the Research Institute on Social and Economic Policy (RISEP) at FIU's Center for Labor Research and Studies. I have lived in Germany and Venezuela and was at Peace Corps volunteer in Gansu, China. Since 2011 I have volunteered as a mentor for young adults transitioning out of foster care with Educate Tomorrow.
